Why we exist.
Our Place of Refuge exists to equip disciples of Jesus to BE THE CHURCH. God came as a man, fully God and fully man to die and then rise on the third day to bring salvation to all who believe this in their heart and confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord. Those who believe are now in Christ and have access to an abundant life, healed and whole by the power of His Holy Spirit! We lead you on a journey that brings freedom, fulfillment and purpose with the Father. By the leading and power of Holy Spirit, we help you walk out the steps of becoming healed and set free from bondage, past hurts, and wounds so that you can BE THE CHURCH in every area of your life.
What to expect.
Find restoration through discipleship and weekly gatherings, one on one prayer sessions, worship nights and retreats. We do life with each other as in the days of Acts. We are near completion on providing prayer cabins and intimate spaces along our Forgiveness Trail where you can meet with the Father in a private setting to experience His total freedom.
Gatherings.
We gather together like in the days of Acts, breaking bread together each week. We lift up the name of Jesus, the name above all names. We allow Holy Spirit to lead. Each person engages by loving one another, praying for one another and growing in the gifts of Holy Spirit as we fully surrender our lives to Jesus. God is building His church and equipping His body!
Prayer ministry.
At our gatherings, worship nights and one on one prayer sessions, we create spaces for Holy Spirit to heal and deliver God's children so they can walk in the fullness Jesus died and rose to give them. Whom the Son sets free is free indeed!
Worship Nights.
We host worship nights to worship the King of Kings, to give Him all the glory and be in His Presence. This is a time of refreshing and finding refuge in the only one that gives life, hope, healing and freedom - our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Prayer ministers are always available for personal prayer ministry at our worship nights.
Our story.
Our Place of Refuge started with two families that had a radical encounter with Jesus and experienced the healing and deliverance ministry of Holy Spirit. The McAbee and Johnson families met in 2012 while the McAbee's were running a ministry called The Channel and the Johnson's were founding a ministry called Switch to help fight sex trafficking. The Channel saw hundreds of young adults come to Christ through it's all ages music venue while also providing a Kingdom space that nonprofits across the Upstate of SC utilized - Switch was one of those nonprofits and the Lord began the connection. After journeying together for nearly a decade, in May of 2020, their lives were radically changed by the power of Holy Spirit. After embarking on a journey of intensive training on healing and deliverance, the Lord started using them to be His hands and feet to set people free by the power of Holy Spirit. The Father has now assembled a team of families that are on a mission to be about the Father's business, following Jesus' model of making disciples, healing the sick and casting out demons - to freely give what we have been given. Above all, we aim to love the Lord our God with all our hearts, all our souls, all our strength and all our minds and to love our neighbors as ourselves.
